Most men are taught one strategy for dealing with hard things: push through it. Grit your teeth, keep moving, don't let anyone see you sweat. And for a while, it works — until it doesn't. Until the drinking becomes a daily ritual, the anger comes out of nowhere, or you're lying awake at 3am wondering how you ended up this far from the man you meant to be. As a licensed therapist specializing in men's mental health and addiction — and as a man with my own recovery story — I can tell you that pushing through and actually healing are not the same thing. And confusing the two is costing men years of their lives.
